This proposed monument serves as a counterproposal for the controversial Columbus murals within the main building of the University of Notre Dame. The three memory tablets were derived from the cultural tradition of the Taino tribe, who were the Natives that interacted with Columbus on his arrival to the Americas. These tablets are dedicated to the Taino, the Potawatomi tribe of the Great Lakes, and all victims of discrimination in the United States.
